Lawyer – Institutional and European Union Law

About the role

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is seeking a Lawyer specialised in Institutional and European Union law to join its Corporate, Employment and Litigation Division at the Luxembourg headquarters. The role involves representing the EIB in litigation before the Court of Justice of the European Union and providing high‑level legal advice on EU institutional matters.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice through notes and opinions on complex EU law issues.
• Act as the EIB’s agent in litigation before the Court of Justice of the EU.
• Conduct legal research and studies across the division’s areas of responsibility.
• Represent the Legal Service in internal and external working groups, panels and task forces.
• Liaise with external counsel, supervise their work and ensure quality of legal services.
• Maintain contacts with internal and external counterparts and stay updated on legal developments.

Required profile

• University degree in law (minimum Bachelor, preferably Master’s level).
• Bar qualification or Master’s in EU law is a strong asset.
• At least 5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably within EU institutions or an international law firm.
• Experience in EU litigation and deep knowledge of EU law are highly desirable.

Required skills

• Expertise in EU law and institutional legal frameworks.
• Litigation experience before the Court of Justice of the EU.
• Advanced legal research and drafting abilities.
• Proficiency with standard computer tools and legal databases.
