Legal Counsel – Fintech & Payments

About the role

As a Legal Counsel you will provide high‑level legal guidance for fintech products, focusing on payments, e‑money and consumer credit. You will work closely with product, engineering and senior leadership to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.

Key responsibilities

• Product development support – collaborate cross‑functionally to design and launch new payments and consumer‑credit products, integrating technical considerations into legal analysis.
• Risk assessment & management – identify legal and regulatory risks and propose mitigation strategies aligned with the company’s risk appetite.
• Regulatory compliance – advise on financial regulations such as PSD2, AML/KYC, e‑money rules and CCD2 to ensure adherence.
• Stakeholder management – act as trusted advisor to senior leadership, fostering legal awareness across the organisation.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with minimum 5 years post‑qualification experience, ideally 8‑10 years in fintech and payments.
• Deep knowledge of financial and consumer‑credit regulations (PSD2, AML/KYC, EMRs, CCD2) and proven track record in both private practice and in‑house settings.
• Analytical mindset with ability to make sound risk‑based decisions.
• Technical and commercial awareness of fintech, payments and consumer‑lending processes; experience working with technical teams is a plus.
• Fluent in English; Italian or French language skills are a plus.
